Where does a Winterville family go on Halloween night this year? As of the first week of October, the Town of Winterville's events calendar has nothing listed for Saturday, Oct. 31. The town's Halloween season is scheduled for the weekend before, when a movie night, a Trunk or Treat and the Chamber's Fright Fest fall on three days in a row.
Halloween lands on a Saturday this year, which sounds like a gift for anyone with kids. The calendar has pulled the town's organized events a week ahead of it, so the weekend to circle is Oct. 23–25.
Three days, three hosts, one weekend
Here is the weekend as currently scheduled, plus the concert the week before.
| Date | What | Where | Time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fri., Oct. 16 | Cooper Greer Band concert | Winterville Recreation Park Amphitheatre, 332 Sylvania St. | 7 to 8:30 p.m. |
| Fri., Oct. 23 | Field of Dreams movie night | Winterville Recreation Park Amphitheatre, 332 Sylvania St. | Dusk, about 30 minutes after sunset |
| Sat., Oct. 24 | Event Solutions Trunk or Treat | 589 Alma Drive | 4 to 6 p.m. |
| Sun., Oct. 25 | Fright Fest, 6th annual | Downtown Winterville | 3 to 6 p.m. |
The two Friday events are the last dates in the Town's 2026 Summer Movie & Concert Series, which runs this late into the fall. Field of Dreams isn't a Halloween movie. Still, it falls on the Friday that opens the busiest weekend of the month, at the same amphitheatre where the summer series has run all season. Because the start time depends on sunset, an evening in late October gets going earlier than the summer screenings did.
The Saturday Trunk or Treat is hosted by Event Solutions, a business, and listed on the Winterville Chamber's calendar. It runs two hours in the late afternoon. Sunday belongs to the Chamber and the Town together.
Fright Fest is spread across three downtown spots
Fright Fest is in its sixth year, and the Chamber describes it as a partnership with the Town of Winterville. The flyer says "downtown," but the event is laid out in three separate spots, each with its own job:
- Main and Mill parking lot. Food trucks and vendors selling goods, plus games, raffles and giveaways.
- Railroad Street. The Town's candy stations, along with several downtown businesses hosting games and contests inside their shops.
- Market Square. Cornhole, inflatable axe-throwing and other games.
The layout matters for anyone bringing small children. The candy is on Railroad Street and the food is in the Main and Mill lot, so a family that parks near one end and stays there gets only part of the afternoon. With three hours to cover all three, a sensible plan is to start with candy while the lines are short, then eat. The 3 to 6 p.m. window also means Fright Fest ends around dinnertime on a Sunday, which suits a school-night schedule.
The Chamber is also selling 50/50 raffle tickets to help fund events like this one. The winner will be announced Oct. 26, the day after the festival.
The Oct. 31 page that dates back to 2019
Search for Halloween in Winterville and a Town page for "Trick or Treat the Trail" will probably come up. It describes trick-or-treat stations along the walking trail at Winterville Recreation Park, 332 Sylvania St., from 4:30 to 8 p.m. on Oct. 31, with a DJ, food trucks, games, bounce houses and face painting.
The page calls it the "2nd Annual" event and gives no year. The event started in 2018. The Town's September 2018 newsletter called that Oct. 31 event the inaugural one. WITN covered the second edition in October 2019 and said it had begun the year before. The page still online describes 2019, not 2026.
That doesn't mean the Town has ruled out a Halloween-night event this year. It means nothing is on the official calendar yet. As of early October, the Oct. 31 square on the Town's calendar is blank. Local Oak Brewing's events page sends visitors to its social media for updates rather than listing dates. Families who want something organized on Halloween itself should check the Town's events calendar again closer to the date, or call Winterville Parks and Recreation at 252-756-1487, the number on the trail page.
The corn maze that runs through Halloween
One fall attraction close to town runs right up to Oct. 31, and it's new this year. Simply Natural Creamery & Jersey Farm, at 1265 Carson Edwards Road in Ayden, is running its first corn maze, open Sept. 28 through Oct. 31.
There are two mazes: a four-acre main maze and a smaller kiddie maze. The main maze includes a game that event coordinator Raeanne Knight described to WNCT:
"With the main maze we do have an interactive game throughout the maze, so we'll have little post like this through out the maze and you'll hole punch your card and you can go inside and redeem it for a prize."
Visit Greenville's listing adds a detective-book activity and a flashlight "Moonlight Maze" after sunset. The after-dark option matters for this calendar. The maze is open until 9 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, so it fits after Fright Fest wraps up at 6 p.m. on Oct. 25, and it's one of the few organized options confirmed for Halloween night itself.
Hours as WNCT reported them in September:
- Monday through Thursday, 1:30 to 6 p.m.
- Friday, 1:30 to 9 p.m.
- Saturday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
- Sunday, 1 to 9 p.m.
Two details are still unsettled. Visit Greenville lists the Sunday opening as 1:30 p.m., not 1 p.m. Neither source gives a ticket price. Tickets are sold at the ticket booth or inside the store. If you're planning around a Sunday afternoon, call ahead.
The store is also a creamery, and Visit Greenville's fall roundup suggests pairing the maze with Simply Natural ice cream, including a Pumpkin Crunch flavor.
Pumpkins before the carving deadline
The same roundup sends people to Briley's Farm Market for pumpkins, not Simply Natural. Briley's runs two roadside pumpkin lots this season, both open daily from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.:
- Fire Tower lot, 830 E. Fire Tower Road, Greenville, Sept. 29 through Oct. 31.
- 10th Street lot, 3801 E. 10th Street, Greenville, Sept. 30 through Oct. 31.
The Fire Tower lot is the one closer to Winterville. Both lots stay open through Oct. 31, but the town's busiest weekend comes earlier. A family that wants carved pumpkins on the porch for Fright Fest weekend should buy by about Oct. 22, not wait for the final week. Briley's farm itself also offers hayrides and a corn maze. The admission listed on the farm's own website isn't dated to this season, so confirm the current price with the farm before you go.
Put together, a Winterville October in 2026 could look like this: the Cooper Greer Band on Oct. 16, Field of Dreams on Oct. 23, the Trunk or Treat on Oct. 24, Fright Fest on Oct. 25, and the Moonlight Maze in Ayden on any evening through Oct. 31.
